How to define an Turnpoint Data file comp_id.csv
From a GARMIN GPS
To create an comp_id.csv file, one uses the GARMIN Download
Score Pilot button.
compid.csv means a file called AA2003.csv, or NODC03.csv, whatever
the 6 character code for the comp is that goes into each GPS.
Start off with a GPS that has some waypoints that should be used for
the comp .
The best GPS in 2003 is a Garmin 72 or 76, which provide the
Id, and the comment and alitude info for each waypoint.
GPS12 do not know altitude, eMap and eTrex do not have any comment
info for a waypoint.
Plug in the GPS, fire up TP, and use Menu GARMIN
Untick the Auto Score Mode,
Get WPT
which gets from the GARMIN the waypoints, then press
CREATE Turnpoint file
which copies the WAYPOINTx.csv to
comp_id.csv.
By default comp_id.csv is called UPLOAD.csv.
Or comp_id becomes whatever you called the competition in the SETUP/COMP/CREATE
, the 6 character id.
Once you defined a comp ( SETUP/COMP/CREATE), the UPLOAD.csv gets replaced
by comp_id.csv.
ADD, Append some new turnpoints
Individual turnpoints can be added by selecting them after a Garmin waypoint
download from the list of waypoints.
In the GARMIN Interface window, click on a waypoint in the scroll list,
it becomes blue.
And a dialog appears that asks you if you want to add this waypoint
to the turnpoint list.
Use an Editor like Notepad
You can also use the notepad editor and copy/paste records from the WAYPOINTx.csv
file in the working directory to the comp_id.CSV located in your
competition directory.
And edit the comp_id.csv file, if necessary.
Make sure the comp_id.csv file does not contain a waypoint called
PILOT or comp_id.
TP will warn the operator, and not send to a GPS a waypoint that is
called PILOT or -XXX , XXX= pilot number, or comp_id
Type in by hand a new Tunrpoint
Another possibility exists in the Task Creation Panel, SETUP/TASK/CREATE
to type in by hand turnpoint coordinates.
Get them from RACE
If you got the turnpoints in RACE then you can get the data from RACE using Menu RACE/TURNPOINT/RACE>Comp_ID.csv
Once you added some new turnpoints, you have to also update RACE.
Use Menu Option RACE/TURNPOINT/compid.csv>RACE to create or append
new waypoints to the list of turnpoints in RACE
