TP and scoring a track using a Braeuniger
COMPEO / Competino or Flytec 5020 / 5030
In 2003 the Braeuniger GALILEO got renamed to COMPEO .In 2005 the
Competino got added.
Menu OTHER/BRAUNIGER
Competino and Compeo use different cables.
COMPEO uses a flat ribbon square plug cable.
While the competino uses a round plug cable.
But they use the identical interface specifications.
Therefore TP offers 2 identical Interfaces. One for the ex-Galileo Compeo or Flytec
5030.
And one for a Competino / Flytec 5020.
The reason for this, they use different cables. One can have one
COM port for the one cable and use another COMx for the other cable.
Do not use the Galileo Interface, it never worked properly.
Make sure your computer uses in Regional settings a date format of dd/MMM/yyyy.
Compeo setup
Compeo has to be on a software level of 2.09 or higher.
Make sure the beep sound is enabled on the Compeo.
Make sure the cable only gets plugged in once you are in waypoint or
flight menu mode.
For waypoint up/download switch the Compeo into Menu mode or
one
further into the list of waypoints. Then plug in the serial cable.
Waypoints
Recommend to use the compatible mode. For this the Waypoints have to
follow the G01123 notation. G01 is the id, and 123 is 1230 meters
altitude.
Downloading a track TRK_ONLY
Before you start a track download ...
Make sure the sound is switched on at the Compeo to get some acoustic feedback .
First highlight in the Compeo the flight, then plugin the
cable,
then start on the TP side the track download.
Menu OTHER/BRAUNIGER/TRK-ONLY downloads IGC tracks .
Another option is using the COMPEO shareware, like GPSVAR or IQ-online code from the Braeuniger
website , download the track in IGC and then score IGC track. With the TP Convert
Option CONVERT/IGC/IGC>CSV
Track gets downloaded as IGC in the temporary work directory and
then converted/stored in csv file format.
COM settings
Since the Compeo, like MLR, uses a fast download, one has to
tweak
the COM port settings.
Use Flow Control NONE, use FIFO Buffer 16550,
all Buffer High , driver version 5.0.2183.1 works
Interface Settings
IQ-COMPEO receives and transmits data
with the following format:
- 57.600 baud
- 1 start bit
- 8 data bit
- 1 stop bit
- no parity
- Software handshake XON / XOFF for
flow control
Known Problems and Workarounds
- COMPEO/GALILEO nothing works when interfacing. The sound MUST be
activated at
the Compeo!!!!
- No difference which waypoint format is used. Correct, they were
made
the
same. All of them use an ID altitude format now
- Track read errors? Go into your computers serial port settings
....
Via
MyComputer/Properties/Hardware/DeviceManager/Ports/ComPorts/Properties/PortSettings
and set your comport to use
57600 8 None 1 Xon/Xoff
- The download does not work,... try the RobLog IGC interface. Uses
the same command syntax.
- Downloads are missing trackpoints? Increase the buffer, if that
does not
help use the GPSVAR code from
the
Braeuniger website
- Getting B record errors when reading the IGC data? Use GPSVAR
from Braeuniger
website .Then score the IGC track in TP by CONVERT/IGC/IGC>CSV or
OTHER/IGC
- Why is my date out? Instead of 070804 it shows 080704 for the
track log.!!!!
The computer date format is set to MM/dd/yy while it should
be dd/MM/yy. or dd/MMM/yyyy.
- The IGC track does not convert into a proper csv track and looks
wrong.!???
Have a look at the IGC file with notepad or some other editor.
Are the B records all looking the same? Or are there some that
have a different length?
Delete the ones that look garbled.
And then convert again from IGC to csv and rescore the pilot
- Use the latest USB Serial port driver. See
http://www.brauniger.de/english.html?sid=1107096992.798390299 which
recommends certain drivers.
- Maybe
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/FT2232CDrivers.htm for FTDI will help?
- Waypoints get sent, but no beep from the device? Either you got the
COM port wrong. Or the sound is off.
- Waypoints got sent, but do not show up. First Esc , then Waypoints again
on the device to see an updated list.
- Waypoints are still not there. Did you reach the 200 limit? Delete
some or all of the Waypoints in the device.
